Sarita Fellows: Costume Designer

A New York based costume designer, Sarita has continued to enjoy extensive travel for theater from Europe to the Caribbean and across Northern America. She first experienced the stage while living in Kampala, Uganda and she answered a call for singers, for the Amateur Drama Society. There she discovered she enjoyed being backstage more, crafting the magic people experienced onstage. 

She got her bachelor’s with a fine arts major, theater and anthropology minor. She has her MFA in design from Tisch School of Design. 

Her more recent works include projects such as Exception to the Rule with Roundabout Underground, Our Daughters Like Pillars at the Huntington Theater, Fefu and Her Friends with the American Conservatory Theater. She also enjoys working with students and has done numerous shows at the Juilliard School, Princeton University, New York University, and Washington State University. 

Sarita also enjoys working with dance and film. She has designed for numerous short independent films including Afronauts, Sight Pictures, Everybody Dies by Frances Bodomo premiering at SWSX, and Dirt by Darius Clark Monroe premiering at Sundance. In the dance world, Sarita has worked with choreographers such as Liz Lerman, Edisa Weeks, Carolyn Web, Marshall Davis Jr, Nia Love, Yin Mae Critchell and Jeremy Nelson.

Personal Life

Sarita Fellows was born a US citizen in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Her parents are humanitarians and she grew up observing people around the world. Living in different countries she was constantly drawing people. She has resided in Sudan, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Swaziland, Nigeria, Jordan, England, Nepal and has enjoyed extensive travel.
